Dear parents/guardians,
Report cards are one of the present indicators of student success and achievement. As the report cards were sent home before the Spring Break, and students and parents discussed and reviewed the successes of the second term, and the goals for the third term, I wish to congratulate our students for their continued hard work and great attitude for learning! Also, I wish to mention just a few achievements of our students in the second term.
Our students participated in Math Contests offered by the University of Waterloo in Ontario:
On February 24, 2010 the students wrote Cayley Contest for Grade 10, and Fermat Contest for Grade 11.
Five students from Grades 9/10 wrote Cayley Contest. The average for Cayley is 86/150 this year. Seung Kyeum Kim got the Certificate of Distinction and a medal: with 121/150. Well done, Seung Kyeum!!! Two more Certificates of Distinction are awarded to Min Ji Heo with 115/150 and Yvonne Liu with 109/150. Excellent work, Min Ji and Yvonne! Congratulations to Sophia Chang with 81/150 (she scored close to the average) and Edward Tseng with 65/150.
Three students wrote Fermat Contest. The average was 87/150. Mohammad Oliya (101) earned the Certificate of Distinction and a medal. Admirable job, Ebi! Congratulations to Waralee Boonyaleephun (95) who scored above the average and Tania Suarez-Mendoza (69). Good job, Waralee and Tania!
Please, note that Certificates of Distinction are issued for students ranking in the top 25% of all contestants in Canada.
We wish our best math students to continue their endeavours in this field. Your achievements are amazing – keep up your hard work!!!
On March 10, 2011 Grade 10 students participated in the UBC Science Contest and Grade 12 student Phillip Dykman participated in the UBC Physics Contest. We have not received the results yet, but we are sure that the participation opens up new opportunities for the contestants and helps them to become confident in competitions. We wish you a success!!!
New contests are coming. We are proud to announce that this year our students have dared to participate in Gaolis for Grade 10 and Hypatia for grade 11 Math Contests which are also offered by the University of Waterloo in Ontario on April 13, 2011. Good luck!
On April 12, 2011 Phillip Dykman will write Euclid Contest for Grade 12. The results are expected by May 10, 2011.
